Gary L. Stiles, M.D., a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), joined Wyeth in January 2004 as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. As Chief Medical Officer at Wyeth, Dr. Stiles is responsible for the Clinical Research and Development, Global Medical Affairs and Global Health Outcomes Assessment organizations. As CMO, he plays a critical role in shaping clinical research strategy to support both the scientific and commercial vision of the company.

 

Dr. Stiles joined Wyeth from Duke University Health System where he had been Vice President and Chief Medical Officer since 1999. After receiving his M.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and completing his residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt Hospital, Dr. Stiles moved to Duke University as a Cardiology Fellow. He joined the Duke faculty in 1981 where he assumed progressive leadership roles in Duke’s prestigious Department of Medicine, serving as Chief of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiology Training Program, and Vice-Chair of the Department of Medicine. During his tenure, the cardiology division had consistently been ranked in the top 5 in the U.S.

 

Dr. Stiles has authored more than 150 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals and other medical publications. He has served as an editor on numerous journals, including The Journal of Biological Chemistry, Molecular PharmacologyAmerican Heart Journal. During his career, he has been the recipient of numerous research grants and prestigious awards including the Young Investigator Award from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association Louis N. Katz Basic Science Research Prize. He also holds five pharmaceutical patents. and the

 

In October 2006, Consumers’ Research Council of America named Dr. Stiles one of “America’s Top Cardiologists.”
