In his first year in Congress, Ferguson has already begun a vigorous constituent service initiative, which aims to keep the citizens of the 7th Congressional District informed of issues important to them and also assist them in federal agency matters.  Ferguson has also hosted several town hall meetings and visited communities throughout the District.

Before his election to office in November 2000, Ferguson was an educator and small business owner. Ferguson has also served as Adjunct Instructor of Political Science at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, New Jersey.

A graduate of Delbarton School in New Jersey, Ferguson attended the University of Notre Dame where he received a degree in government. After graduation, his devotion to public service and education led him to serve as an inner-city high school teacher at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx, New York, where he taught history and coached basketball. It was his teaching experiences that fueled his passion to strengthen our schools and encouraged him to seek a graduate degree in education policy.

Ferguson received a Masters of Public Policy degree with a specialization in education policy from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He was the Executive Director of the Better Schools Foundation, a national school reform advocacy group and he also served Executive Director of the Catholic Campaign for America, a non-profit organization.

During his first term in Congress, Ferguson has been active in initiatives to improve education, protect the environment, lower taxes, secure a comfortable retirement for seniors and enhance New Jersey's transportation infrastructure. Ferguson also works closely with the President Bush to protect our citizens at home and support our troops abroad.
