Robert W. Singer


Robert W. Singer, in his responsibilities as a New Jersey Senator, serves within the Senate leadership circle as Assistant Majority Leader. Singer is also Vice-Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee and a member of the Senate Health Committee. In his former duties as an elected representative in the Upper House, Singer was Chairman of the Senate Senior Citizens, Veterans Affairs and Agriculture Committee and was Vice-Chairman of the Senate Environment Committee, and had been appointed to chair the Joint Legislative Biotechnology Task Force and the Software Task Committee.

On a national level, Senator Singer was also appointed as a member of the Health Committee of the Assembly on Federal Issues of the National Conference of State Legislatures. Members of the Assembly on Federal Issues meet with federal officials and play a key role in developing recommendations on a wide range of national issues that affect state-federal relations.

While a New Jersey State Assemblyman, Senator Singer was named Majority Whip by his colleagues and served as both Vice Chairman of the Commerce and Regulated Professions Committee and Community Development, Agriculture and Tourism Committee.

Senator Robert Singer has distinguished himself among his national peers through his recognition and understanding of high technology industries, particularly biotechnology and the economic development, healthcare, agricultural and environmental benefits this industry offers his state and the nation. The Senator has also been honored at the national and state level for his leadership and support in promoting the biotechnology industry.

In addition to serving three terms in the Assembly from 1986 to 1993, and in the Senate from 1993 to present, Senator Singer has been a Lakewood Committeeman since 1981 and has been Lakewood Mayor four times. The Senator was also instrumental in the designation of Lakewood Township and Pemberton Township as Urban Enterprise Zones.

Senator Singer's legislative and community efforts have been acknowledged by many organizations. He is the recipient of the Conference of Christians and Jews Brotherhood Award, The National Republican Legislator of the Year Award, The New Jersey Foster Parents Association's Outstanding Citizen Award, the Distinguished Legislator Award from the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, the Presidential Citation of the New Jersey Society of the Professional Land Surveyors' Award, and the Equal Justice Medal. In 1994, the Senator was also the recipient of the Distinguished State Legislator of the Year Award from the Biotechnology Industry Organization and the Citizen of the Year Award from the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Ocean County. Senator Singer was also cited that year as Legislator of the Year by both the New Jersey Conference of Mayors and the New Jersey Department of Jewish War Veterans of the United States. The Jersey Shore Council of the Boy Scouts of America also selected the Senator as honoree of their Annual Good Scout and Loyal Buffalo Award. In 1996, the Senator was honored a "Horseperson of the Year" by the Garden State's equine industry. The Senator was also the recipient of "State Legislator of the Year" awards by the Jewish War Veterans and the New Jersey Association of Mental Health Services and the 1996 " Highway Traffic Safety Award." Additionally, the Probation Association of New Jersey honored Senator Singer as "1996 Legislator of the Year." In 1998, the National Council on Alcohol and Drug Dependency of New Jersey (NCADD) and the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Ocean County (ADACO) cited Singer for his legislative efforts to establish a licensing and certification procedure for alcohol and drug counselors. Senator Singer was also the recipient of MADD's (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Legislative Award in 1998. In 2000, the lawmaker received the Outstanding State Legislator of the Year Award from the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Senator Singer is currently Vice President of Corporate Relations of Community/Kimball Medical Centers an affiliate of the St. Barnabas Health Care System.
